Things I miss about home...
- Oct. 26th, 2009 at 5:56 PM
OK so i know it's been a while, but you all know i'm still alive and happy so i can't be bothered with an update. Instead, i thought i would write a growing list of (mostly materialistic) things that I miss about living in Melbourne.
now don't get me wrong, i'm not homesick, just reminicing and looking forward to coming home :)
also, this is not to say i don't love living in Denmark, this is just a list of things i miss about living back home.
this is unfinished.
- Coles/Safeway
- Gloria jeans
- Paying no more than $5 for a night's supply of candy/chocolate
- the general cost of living
- the price of metcards/public transport system in general - even though it's unreliable.
- being able to walk 15 minutes to blockbuster and "borrow" TV dvds and films whilst talking to my old work friends
- being able to walk 15 minutes the other way to the classic to see a movie on a boring/rainy day.
- having my friends/family within a 20km radius
- the incredible selection of restaurants and cafes probably only 10 minutes away from wherever you are.
- not putting a hole in your wallet every time you want to go out (not clubbing/barring) with friends
- Chadstone shopping centre
- working and making money
- being able to wear the same sort of clothes all year round because it doesnt get THAT cold
- being left alone every night (when at dad's place) for several hours to have time to myself
- (house) parties - several on every weekend
- Chapel st and Greville st
- being able to walk into a supermarket and the ability to buy everything you possibly need.
- JB HIFI
- Cadbury fruit and nut chocolate
- cookies and cream icecream
- Foxtel
- Vegemite
- Peanut Butter
- The wealth of options of clubs and other places you can go at night
- cheap DS games at EB.
- skiing at Mt.Hotham
- the Prahran market on a saturday morning
- beef steaks, lamb roast and other delicious meats perfect for bbqing.
- trivia at the 'Wick on Mondays
- the constant invite to go to the pub with Mel
- spending late nights at Mel's eating shapes and candy which she has stolen from dad's place, playing rockband until all hours of the morning, sleeping on a mattress in the living room, waking up at 10 the next day, watching old episodes of Lost on DVD, buying sushi from momoco for lunch, then eventually making my way back to dad's place.
- the general standard and price of Sushi EVERYWHERE in Melbourne
- Yum Cha on Victoria St.
- 5 weeklies for $9.95 every day of the week from Blockbuster
- Breakfast dates
- kangaroo meat
- dad'd spag bol
- "traditional sunday night dinners" (only dad really knows what this is)
- Simpson's and Will and Grace marathon every saturday and sunday morning on Fox8
now don't get me wrong, i'm not homesick, just reminicing and looking forward to coming home :)
also, this is not to say i don't love living in Denmark, this is just a list of things i miss about living back home.
this is unfinished.

I figured its about time to blog again, even if noone is reading.
I just want to say for starters that i don't really want to talk about Eurotour right now.
As much as i had a fantastic time and the tour itself was amazing, i really can't be arsed talking about it. Also, the people (i.e. other exchange students i was with) were kind of shit so that was a downer.
Så, i start school on wednesday and im really looking forward to it. the only two people i have seen whilst being on sommerferie (summer holidays) is johann and laura. i went to copenhagen two times to visit johann in his new appartment. one of the times i was only there for a couple of days before we went to assens to housesit for his parents. during the two days i was in copenhagen i met his grandparents so that was lovely :). the second time i went to copenhagen i stayed for about a week, which was awesome. it was so nice to spend some quality time together before school started again. after this i thought i was going to have the most boring three weeks of my entire life, but they turned out great still. a week after i came home from copenhagen, johann suprised me with a 5 day visit, so i was very happy. since then i havent seen him, and i wont see him until the last weekend of august, but we talk every day so hopefully it wont be too hard. as i mentioned earlier, i also have seen laura a couple of times, which has also been nice. its handy having a friend so close by.
so i am looking forward to school becuse it means i get to see everyone again :) weeeeee.
Speaking of school, i got my skema the other day and they completely screwed it up. Basically im only enrolled for the compulsary subjects (english, danish, history, samfundsfag, spanish and sport) and not for the electives or new subjects (biology, chemistry, psych and (one of) maths (advanced level), psych (advanced level) or drama). SO, basically, i figured instead of talking to Helen (my contact person/spanish teacher) about it, i figured i just leave it be. this way i get to have no school on tuesdays, no class after sport (meaning i can go home straight after and shower when i get home, rather than at school *SUCCESS*), four hours of class on thursdays and three hours of class on fridays. BRILLIANT skema! although unfortunately it also means that i have all the boring subjects. at least i have all the same teachers as last year, but my danish teacher has changed to a new teacher (who is an english teacher, so i think it could work out okay for me).
today i woke up at 7am because my diet starts today. im really going to be serious about this one, too. it goes for 12 weeks, and its a food plan which vivi has done before and in 8 weeks she lost 6 kilos (without doing ANY exercise), so i think that, with a combination of doing some exercise 5 times a week, should be really good for me. its pretty much a no-carb diet except that i can have 60g of rugbroed (dark, danish bread) per day, which is about one slice. it also makes me eat 4 fruits a day and 600g of vegetables, in combination with lean meats and lots of yoghurt. im excited to see if it works, because losing (at least) 6kg would be amazing!
other than that, not a whole lot has been happening in my life. johann downloaded the first 4 seasons of gilmore girls for me, so ive been watching that a LOT lately :D and, yeah.
i think in a few weeks im doing a photoshoot with laura and caroline, so that should be extra exciting :D
OH YEAH, the other stuff that i have been doing is applying and preparing for my TAFE course and the interview. let's hope i get in!

SO! Tomorrow i go to Copenhagen at 5.45am. This is so that i can be in Copenhagen for Wednesday, when i leave for the STS European Tour! Wooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
Im very very excited. Both for Copenhagen, and for Europe. When i come back i will be living with Johann for a week or so here in Copenhagen.
For those of you who don't know, i'll be going to:
Berlin, Prague, Vienna, Budapest, Venice, Lido Di Jesolo, Zermatt, Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam and finishing in Copenhagen
How delightful!
Im pretty sure we're going to do heaps of touristy stuff - i.e. eiffel tower, gondola tour through venice, etc. but also things im really looking forward to - i.e. Concentration camps, horsecarriage ride through prague, etc. Im also really looking forward to seeing my Uncle in Paris for a night - the first time i will see someone from my past life! :D :D
sooooo basically i just wanted to write that. i cant think of anything important that has happened lately. i finished school a couple weeks ago which was nice. i got a 12 (highest grade) in my english exam, which was great too. so i dont have school until mid August - AWESOME.
Im going to go now. Watching friends, making sure i have everything packed and having some last minute alone time :)
Until next time,
All my love

There's not so much to say for the past month.
I went to Århus for a weekend to talk to the 80 Danish STS students who are leaving for different destinations around August. not so much to my suprise, by different destinations, i really mean 75 of them going to America, 2 to Australia, one to the UK and two to Canada.
These Danish kids clearly have quite an imagination. i did make some friends out of the trip, so that was nice. STS also paid for my transportation - always nice.
I haven't done a whole lot this month because i did indeed get a boyfriend, as most of you SHOULD know by now. Johann and i have almost been going out for a month now. and for once, i'm really happy. there's not a whole lot to report about us though. he's moving in with a friend in copenhagen in late June/early July, whilst i make my escape to different parts of western europe! how exciting. anyway, so 90% of the time we have, we spend togther, so not much has been happening.
Lately the main thing that has been bothering me is the amount of dishes i have been doing lately. Maybe i'm being selfish? im really not too sure. but i literally am asked to do the dishes (emptying dishwasher, reloading it) twice a day, every day of the week (even for the meals which i am not here for, i end up cleaning up after everyone else). every week i am asked to vacuum the entire house, clean my bathroom (which wouldn't be such a problem if sebastian didn't shit in there too and make a huge fucking mess of it), help cook dinner (mostly just salad) and much, much more!
it probably sounds fair to you, but it has actually really gotten on my nerves lately. also, when i ask them to do something for me, they usually dont. for example, getting lifts to or from the bus stop (at least 4km away). i dont know. its just been bugging me and seeing as i cant vent to them, i figure i'd vent on here. thats what a blog is for, right?
School has also been really shit lately. i've been asked to do a Danish and History assignment which im not even sure what im supposed to be doing because all teachers say here is "just write about whatever you want" or "it can be as long as you want" etc. it's really difficult to write anything when i have no boundaries! ive also been asked to draft a survey, which i should actually probably get around to doing. i had to write a two page explanation of WHY i was doing it (pretty much because i was asked to, but thats not what i wrote), and i have to write the actual survey itself in danish.
speaking of danish, if you're wondering, my danish is actually improving a lot. lately ive noticed im able to string a sentence together pretty easily. i even though i have it set out in my head, when i start to say it i say it really slow. but i honestly think it wont be long until im much more comfortable - and its about time too! today is the day which i have now been here for exactly 4 months! hooray!
as for the rest of school, things have been pretty shit. the only reason i go to most classes is because johann is there. otherwise, i'd have, on average, 14 free classes a week.
technically all i have to be there for is english and social studies, because in danish and history they are doing the danish history assignment, maths and physics they are doing exam stuff for the physics exam, and for art, theyre doing preperation for the art exam (which neither johann nor i have, seeing as johann has the physics exam, and here they only have one exam per student).
anyhow. i also FINALLY tried rød grød med fløde. and it's unfortunately awesome. every candy here is. speaking of candy i went to germany the other day and bought $80 worth of chocolate and gummy bears. oh dear!
we also finally set up the upstairs living room for me, because they finally found renters for the little house. so now i have a tv, shelf space, a couch, a coffee table and an exercise bike! so that has been a long time awaited, and very nice to have.
yeah i can't think of anything else to write about, so i'll just go.
vi ses!

Felipe's 18th, København and a Robots Anatomy.
- Apr. 24th, 2009 at 8:35 PM
Okay, so i guess its about that time of the month again!
I guess i'll quickly recap all the highlights of the month of april so far.
I'll start with Felipe's 18th birthday celebration, which was a sleepover party at his host parent's AMAZING house in middlefart. admittedly, the party was mostly a waste of 160kr (in order to get there and home again) but some of it was worth being there for. i find myself in the situation often where im at a sucky party or something and i think to myself "this was not worth the effort" but then at the same time i also realise, if i hadnt gone to that crappy party, i would have wondered for too long afterwards "what it would have been like if i DID go". so therefore, im doing a lot of things/going to a lot of places which i would normally say no to (not including anything illegal of course :)).
ANYWAY, as i was saying: i wondered into Odense early that day so i could have a look around with the very little money which i had, and finally bought a pair of black cheap mondays which i had been dreaming about (literally) and wanting for three weeks. since i was carrying around a sleeping bag with a broken strap and a sleeping matt all over odense, i felt like the worlds biggest tourist. i was just about ready to make fun of myself. after a good half hour of looking around and bumping into people because i had too much stuff, i decided to go to barresso (popular coffee shop like starbucks/gloria jeans but instead its double the price) to wait for my american friends marshall and scott, who were joining me on my expedition.
two and a half hours went by which mostly included sending hate messages to both marshall AND scott for being 3 hours late to meet me in odense. i was pretty sure that the girls who were working at barresso were just about ready to expect me to squat there. eventually though, scott showed up, and me being lazy and bored and really hungry, we went to look for some food. i ended up having to go for maccas because everything was closed. that is the second time ive had mcdonalds in denmark, and the second time i've been dissapointed with myself for spending $14 on a "value" meal.
after a reasonable train ride and a 25 minute walk (we were promised it was only 12 minutes, but felipe lied to get us to actually come to his party), we finally arrived at the beautiful house in middlefart. for the duration of the party, we mostly played drinking games like "never have i ever" (AKA "i never") and that got particularly interesting. Josh (australian exchange student) got reeeaaaallly drunk, i felt a bit questionable, and julia got really sad. after a long chat to julia to help her feel better, we went to sleep at 3.30. i woke up at 6.45 and was soooo angry and sooo tired but i took the 9am train back to odense with zea and scott (who was COMPLETELY pissed off with me because i woke him up half an hour before his alarm went off because i was not convinced we would make it to the train on time -- which we did -- oops!). when i EVENTUALLY got home, i had a very satisfying 5 hour nap, and then was on the computer for the most of the rest of the time (heh, knowing me, of course).
from sunday the 5th i actually started bike riding quite a bit - trying to get even just a little bit done every night. often laura joins me, which is nice. its really good for clearing my head, and making me feel better after a hearty dinner of pork and salt and butter. even just biking around the block is 3.5km so its easy enough - it only takes me as much as 20 minutes.
Caroline and Emil came over again during the week (i forgot to mention that its been holidays during the time of these aforementioned events) for another movie night. this time i made them watch Pan's Labyrinth in spanish with DANISH subtitles -- REALLY fun for me! (if youre wondering why, its because i bought the movie here, not realising this version doesnt come with english subtitles. heh.) and then we watched Batman (the original, tim burton version). it was very ammusing because Emil fell asleep SEVERAL times and i proceeded to take polaroids of him lying on the "fatboy" sleeping, with caroline making funny faces with popcorn stuck up her nose.
i think that really says it all :D
a couple of days later i was delighted to make my first trip to copenhagen/københavn/cph/kbh.
the best part about the train trip was definitely going underwater. thats not something everyone experiences on an everyday train ride (well, except for the danes living on Fyn and working in Kbh of course). the trains were also cool because every seat has a number on it, and next to that number it tells you weather the seat is reserved (digitally), and if so - how long that seat is reserved for. for me, it said "odense st. - københavn". i thought those were really cool (i dont exactly know why....)
Anyhow, thats not the important part.
so as soon as i got there, i was in awe of just how beautiful the city is. i (eventually, after walking around like a lunatic for 5 minutes) found Camilla, the landchief from STS who was meeting me for the day, and she took me for my first trip to the tivoli gardens!
yet again, i was completely in awe of how beautiful everything is there. STS paid for entrance, which was definitely VERY nice of them (saved me 80kr) and they also paid for lunch (even better, saved me a further 100-150kr). i bought a fairy-floss later because i hadnt had a REAL one in a very long time. it was a lovely day too, so that made the whole trip a lot more enjoyable. Camilla then took me around the centre of the city, including the main walking street where i witnessed the BIGGEST H+M ive seen in my life (not that ive seen that many.. ive seen 4...well, five now) which spanned over like 3 stories and was absolutely MASSIVE when youre looking for one, particular skirt which you saw on the internet once :D (needless to say, i didnt find it ;)). i also got to see some drunks (not really, but they were probably drunk) performing "walking on sunshine" using flutes made out of empty beer bottles (always classy). camilla then showed me where the queen lives in the winter time and where mary and frederik will live and etc. it wasnt VERY exciting, but i thought i'd mention it anyway. then we went to Nyhavn (THE MOST BEAUTIFUL PLACE IVE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE --- except that it was completely populated by tourists and restaurant customers) and had some icecream and walked along the water. it was truely beautiful. after that i pretty much hopped on a crowded train (crowded in terms of denmark, not in terms of melbourne, mind you) and made my way back home to odense, and then to glamsbjerg by bus.
on tuesday night i went to see an absolutely horrible play at Odense's Teaterhuset called Robbotens Anatomi (i THINK thats how you spell it, i cant remember exactly). the only thing keeping my alive was my company (all of the Art and Drama classes of 1.g. were there), where Johann and i made jokes referring to the Rejected cartoon all night, and played a little DS during the intermission (we are SUCH great company to anyone else but eachother :D). the play was HORRIBLE. it started off kinda ok because it was mostly a couple of lectures about robots (who doesnt love robots?) which both happened to be in english (good for me!), but then it turned into a danish play about a woman falling in love with a robot. or something. i dont know i didnt quite catch it. it was a very perculiar night :S.
so now its 9.30pm and i think i should probably be getting to bed (yes, its friday night), but Johann is coming over tomorrow to watch all three LOTR movies (ALL extended versions = approximately 11 hours 35 minutes), because i havent seen them yet and apparently that is appauling!
so i hope everyone is well
and keep updating me on stuff :)
LOVE LOVE LOVE
XOOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXO
p.s. its 9.30pm and the sun only just went down. still not used to that yet!

the best part about the train trip was definitely going underwater. thats not something everyone experiences on an everyday train ride (well, except for the danes living on Fyn and working in Kbh of course). the trains were also cool because every seat has a number on it, and next to that number it tells you weather the seat is reserved (digitally), and if so - how long that seat is reserved for. for me, it said "odense st.

School, Elevweekend and Ridiculous Facebook Groups.
- Mar. 30th, 2009 at 8:16 PM
Facebook groups are stupid. I guess mum's was somewhat effective though.
I've been meaning to write.
Im very lazy, you see. Anyone who knows me well, knows this.
Also, there's not a whole hell of a lot to say.
School has been okay. My work has increased quite a bit. I finished that Samfundsfag (social studies) assignment a couple of weeks ago. It mostly killed me in the making, but i feel i learned something. Today Jakob (my teacher) felt it was time for us to decide my next assignment. Now i'm writing about the danish and victorian education systems. im not sure if its a presentation or essay or even when i have to hand it in by!
English is always a ball. classes are amusing because Jonas (my english teacher) asks me something like "what kind of a word is "often"" not realising that english grammar is one of my weakest points. turns out its an adverb - who knew! i just finished doing my next english assignment which, infact, WAS a grammar exercise. i think i learned something again.
All my other subjects are boring. i hate maths, physics, sport, spanish, danish, etc. basically i just teach myself danish in most of those classes. or distract myself with mindless work. i cant wait until 2nd grade starts because NO MATHS NO PHYSICS! but instead, Psychology and something else, perhaps biology :D weeeeeeeeeeeee.
I do like going to school, admittedly. i like seeing everyones faces. even if its just another boring day. i have school holidays again next week (for 10 days, saturday to the next monday, inclusive) so thats exciting. im probably going to Copenhagen to meet Camilla, someone from STS. i dont know what my funds will look like in terms of shopping, but we'll see! it will probably cost me around $50aud just to get there and back. and thats CHEAP because it should cost me DOUBLE that, but i have my trusty wildcard :D
anyhow. what else can i say?
i should probably tell you all about my Elevweekend...
Well, i trust that most of you have seen the photos.
They help me explain a lot. you can refer to them if you really want.
I got there reletively early to play an exciting game of trivial persuit intended at 3 players per team, but my team has 6. we still managed to tie in two games and lose at 2 or 3 more. excellent. after that excitement, more and more people started arriving. by the time it finally got to about 7, we entered the canteen for an exciting danish dinner of... you guessed it... PORK! and creamy potatoes, pasta, bread and salad. it wasnt too bad. after dinner was more socialising and then eventually we were graced with a particularly hilarious attempt at a performance from some 3rd year guys. these are the hot boys that all the girls want and think are "so cool" and "so hot" and "do their own thing all the time" ~aces~.
ANYWAY it was pretty awful. but whatever. then some of the 1st year music kids did a performance including TWO ACDC songs. i felt right at home. especially since they played TNT, my favourite of ACDC songs :) it was certainly a commendable performance.
After the music came the talent show. This was.....interesting... but to be honest i spent most of it talking to other people and taking photos than actually paying attention.
After this was the disco. yet another thing i sat out for. i had some nice conversations with different people. it was a really good chance to talk to people i hadnt previously. which i did! i was mostly angry that a certain someone who paid to come, didnt show up. but thats another story.
so all in all, everything was pretty sweet up until about midnight.
as a great man once said - "nothing good ever happens after 2am."
After last fredagsbar, i decided to skip out on the drinking this time - a VERY wise choice for me. i got really really tired by about 1 though but decided to stick it out and stay awake until about 2.30am when the disco stopped (really loud pop/dance music isnt good when you're not feeling so great). by about 11 Caroline had already decided to leave, so i thought id suck it up, and just sleep wherever laura and christian slept. which i did. i knew that if i went home than id be really upset and "what if" about the whole night - after all it was a once in a lifetime experience for me!
ANYWAY, so it got to be a little after 2am before some pricks from the second grade decided to be really drunk and steal my sleeping matress and sleeping bag whilst in front of me, dragging it outside and dropping it in the dirt. i just went outside and was like "IM AN EXCHANGE STUDENT! WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING!?" and he was like ".........why?" and i snatched my stuff off him and walked back inside, severly pissed off.
later the douche bags came back, the most annoying one (who took my stuff), this time with two beers in his hands, walked all over lauras sleeping mat with dirty shoes and layed down on it, spilling beer all over everyones things. we yelled at him enough and eventually he pissed off again. but of course, he came back. he was waking people up who were trying to sleep, this time. so Frederik, Christian and Esben, three pretty tough looking boys (or as tough as any blonde hair blue eyed danish boy can look) and walked up to him all macho and said "just stop. you're really irritating" etc. that was nice to see some justice.
luckily immediately after this happened, we discovered an open, uninhabitted classroom which Frederik and his girlfriend Anna, Laura, Christian and I all packed up our bags and moved into. From there, the night got infinitely better. at 3.30am i finally got to sleep, but only to be awoken again at 4.30am feeling like udder shit. i got back to sleep at 5, then woke up at 8 for "breakfast" which was basically just the guys who ran the elevweekend walked up to the bakery and got a couple of loafes of bread and some butter and jam and brought it back to the school. this was good enough for everyone after such a shitty nights sleep. Eventually then, lauras dad came and picked us up and dropped us home.
so that was my elevweekend. uneventful, unfortunately worse than expectations, but nontheless, something ill probably never forget.
and as for chocolate (just for t-bunn), im eating way too much Ritter Sport me thinks. and Daim. but damn its gooooooood. neither of which are danish, mind you! hehe.
Dad called me today and told me (not in these exact words) but that i'd really done a number on my computer. hes looking into an acer aspire one netbook with external dvd drive. :) good news for me! i just hope i get it soon! i get the feeling that im annoying my host family by using the computer so much (there are two, but one is really slow).
i dont think theres anything else to say so im going to go ahead and stop there.
Oh except that the clocks went forward an hour yesterday. a WEEK earlier than in australia. thats also the SECOND time in a row that i have to deal with an hour less of sleep :( POOR ME. hahahaahha.
love love love love love love love.

Okay, So I Guess It's Been A While Since My Last Post..
- Mar. 6th, 2009 at 8:08 PM
but, there is method to my madness!
Really not a whole lot has happened in this past month, but i will try to tell of all the terribly exciting things ive been doing! (i write notes in my diary/daily planner every day, so i wont have forgotten anything too important)
So i guess a couple of days after my last post, we contacted Helen about moving classes, and by thursday the 12th, she interupted my class to tell me i was allowed to move. she gave me my new skema and i then spent my last day in 1.Z still reletively miserable, but mostly hopeful that from tomorrow, things were going to start looking up.
The next day, my first day with 1.C, was actually a pretty good one. I sat by myself in Spanish, but for my other classes (danish and physics) i sat with Caroline and Emil and we had a lot of fun doing very little. It was also cake day (cake fridays!) so that made things pretty good. Afterwards, Laura came over for dinner and to talk and paint our nails - we're such girls.
The next day, i felt like riding Vivi's bike, to make sure that it worked, etc. but i got it out, got my riding clothes on and everything, only to discover that IM TOO SHORT FOR IT! Danish people get on their bikes weirdly, and i think if i tried to do it, i would actually fall off and hurt myself. and i didn't want to take that risk. so i really dont know what im going to do about that, but perhaps we will look for a cheap, second hand bike somewhere.
After then, from about the 16th, i was sick. (i forgot to mention that as of this day, the 16th, it was a week of school holidays). anyway, so as i was saying, i was sick. i still am sick.
The next day, the 17th, I went into Odense because Caroline and Emil and I decided we wanted to watch Napoleon Dynamite because its been way too long for all of us, so i had to rent the movie. As i was at the danish blockbuster, spending my life savings on renting one "weekly" dvd, for two days, i ran into julia and a couple of the others from danish school. We had bagels and then julia and i went and did a little shopping. When i came home, we had deer for dinner, and it was VERY good. Caroline and Emil were there also, so that was nice (getting to know eachother and whatnot) and we watched Napoleon Dynamite and Juno and pigged out a little. it was a lovely night.
on the 18th, the worst possible situation occurred - i broke my computer.
I was extremely excited to learn that i had received a parcel in the mail from amazon, which could only mean one of two things: either i had accidentally ordered season 2 of Kyle XY when i was playing around with my amazon account the other day, or it meant, Mel. Luckily, it was the latter and she had send me season 1 of Unfabulous, to remember the hours we spent watching it, as lame as it is, and wondering if Jake Behari will EVER fall in love with poor Addie Singer. Anyway, vivi couldn't be bothered making dinner tonight so i made some awesome nachos instead, but then i knocked the applejuice and it spilt all into my computer. at first i didnt freak out because i thought i had only spilt a little bit. THEN the DVD stopped working and i was a little bit concerned. so i turned my computer off, took it under the light and realised just how much liquid was running around. ugh, i dont want to talk about it anymore it just makes me sad.
So the next day, the 19th, after devistatingly losing my computer the previous night, i distracted myself by going with vivi and julia to the louisiana art museum in northern copenhagen (well actually more towards hillerød). here we visited the Max Earnst surrealist exhibition, which i was very excited about, and i realised just how talented he was (the answer is very). we then did very little but took a long time to eventually come home. we finally went to a good butcher though and bought some beef steaks and some questionable lamb. the steaks we ended up having for dinner, and they were AMAZING. well and truely. it made me miss australian beef a LITTLE bit less :)
on the 21st, Ina and Elke arrived in Denmark (Ina was the Pedersen's last exchange student (german), and Elke is her sister). they stayed for the rest of the week. i cooked the roast lamb for dinner, which would have been SO good, but we had to wait and wait and wait for them to come home from the station (it was snowing terribly) so it was in the oven on a low heat for too long, and thus became a little bit dry. the vegetables were still good though. i was proud of myself, making a roast lamb all by myself for the first time.
on the 26th, i found out that there's a new Australian exchange student at the school, in 1.B. i kind of feel sorry for her, because i arrived here only a month ago and i guess the effect wears down a little. if i was her, i'd probably be pissed. but at least we're in different classes, and from what ive heard, VERY different people. this day, i also was given my first assignment, a deadly 30 minute presentation to the class about the australian government, how it differs from the danish government, and how it's similar to the british government. i think i will fall asleep during my own presentation - everyone is going to HATE me by the end of it haahaha. at least it gets me out of samfundsfag class for the next three weeks though, because he just tells me to go do some research. i also had my first english class, finally, and recieved some work to do for that, and started actually participating in maths class - how exciting!
The next day, friday the 27th of February, was a very interesting day and night. Let me start off by explaining what a "fredagsbar" is. it litterally means "Friday Bar" and basically, the students and the teachers all go into the gym at 3pm (and finish at about 6pm) on one friday every month, and drink lots of beer and sit around tables and talk to eachother. to cut a VERY long story short, i had only 4 beers but was nonetheless rather drunk, but it was a really fun night and i talked to a lot of people and had a really good time getting to know some of the kids a little more thoroughly. i think i screamed "Jeg hedder Caroline, jeg kommer fra Australien, jeg elsker Danmark!!!!!!" at LEAST 40 times, to which everyone responded "SKÅL!" (cheers) and we continued drinking. somewhere in there, was a game of Ping Pang Pong which Laura, Rikke and I are apparently very terrible at. i blame this on Thomas because he kept Pong-ing me and i kept screwing up and having to drink. When i got home, Laura came over for the night, but when i actually got inside, i could feel all the alcohol getting to me in the wrong way and my stomach started to rumble. so i sat down on the floor of my bathroom for at least an hour before i decided to just kick it manual-style and shove a toothbrush down the back of my throat. a lovely time was had by all. afterwards i was fine, and laura and i chatted for a long time in my room before going to sleep.
on march the 2nd, a massive smile was brought to my face when i was told that i had recieved another parcel. Mum had sent me a care package containing australian candy and chocolate! its contents consisted of vegemite, tim tams, one packet of mi goreng, lots of random candy, NERDS, cookies and cream kit kat, cherry ripe, twirl and oh so much more. it was EXTREMELY exciting for me. i mostly shared the tim tams, giving one to vivi, one to torben, cutting up 4 and dividing them between my friends at school, giving one to caroline to use in the straw-like thing where you suck up coffee with the timtam and the inside melts and its the most amazing thing ever, nonetheless, she almost cried because it was so good. as a result, the remaining two i have left i am going to give to caroline and emil.
i had to buy a calculator as well and it cost me 200dkk, so im already broke for the month :)
on the 4th, i got my maths assignment back, which i scored an "almost 12" for (meaning it was almost an A/A+ but was more like a B+ instead, its hard to explain because the danish grading system is very complicated), so i was very exited!
Yesterday, the 5th of March, Christian and Laura came over for dinner, and it was lovely. i cooked pork for the first time ever and made a salad to go with it as well. i should have made pasta or something as well because it wasnt really enough food in the end. anyway, afterwards we spent a couple hours in my room just chatting, before they went on their way back to lauras house for the night (it was a school night).
So there you have it, my life in the past month. i told you it wasn't particularly eventful!
The other thing is, not unlike fredagsbar, i was excited to learn that VG (my school) is the only school in all of denmark (because we're apparently so responsible and all) to have a 'elveweekend' which is pretty much the students getting drunk and having a big party at the school on a friday night, having dinner and a trivial pursuit contest and also a talent show with lots and lots and lots of beer, then staying over (if we want) at the school for the night, and waking up in the morning for the teachers and cafeteria staff to cook us breakfast!
HAHAHAHAHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA H!
Denmark is amazing.
Love to all

HAHAHAHAHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA
Denmark is amazing.
Love to all

Excuse the spacing, i wrote this in notepad, then copied and pasted.
- it kind of looks like a bad attempted poem...
So after a few complaints from various people,
here i am, with the next chapter of my story.
School.
Is hard.
Really hard.
im currently in maths, and they're learning
Logarithms - which i haven't done since having
borderline-failed year 11 methods.
It's ugly.
At the moment, the ONLY subject i like in
school is English (NEVER thought i'd be saying
that), and bilology (ohhh, memories) comes a
close second.
In english we're reading Stephen King's "The
Body" (Stand By Me) and sometimes we do
grammar things too, like A vs AN and WHO vs
WHICH vs WHOM, and so forth.
I like this class because obviously it becomes
easier to communicate (though half of the
class is in danish), but also i feel good
because i can help people. or at least i try
to.
the rest of the subjects suck. i just sit and
daydream. or go on my computer (such as now),
which becomes irritating because i keep having
to ask the lucky person sitting next to me for
their log-in details so that i can have access
to the internet. and because they use Internet
Explorer (vomit), it breaks down on my
computer all the time and this i have to
continuously ask people to do the log-in
thing. as a result, most of the time i just
sit here and go on skype (because i dont need
an internet password for that) and write these
thoughts in Notepad so i can later copy it
into my blog.
anyway, i think im done on my rant about
school, i should talk about the year party.
it started as a festive night at Laura's house
to celebrate her upcoming 17th birthday.
I was doing her makeup (my trademark leopard
of course) and i bought her flowers, both to
say happy birthday and thankyou for EVERYTHING
the past two weeks. honestly.
so basically, slowly about 15 people arrived
at her house to have a snack (sandwiches and
those fransk hotdog things that sebastian is
so crazy about, as well as the pizza rolls we
made the previous week and some chips and
stuff) and (quite a few) drinks as well to get
started before the actual party ( it basically
was pre-drinks at her house, but there was
food involved too).
at the beginning of the night, i just sat
there talking to laura and maybe one of her
other friends too. it was a bit awkward to
talk to these kids because i'd never met them
and i didn't know their english capabilities.
it got a lot easier towards the end of laura's
party because they started getting drunk and
thus making them less self-conscious about
their english skills. i spoke to a few people
quite extensively which made it a lot easier
for when we got to the year party.
we decided to skip out on the "elvis show" and
instead arrived soon after it finished. the
night started off reletively dull, but nice. i
started getting to know laura's friend,
caroline, who was practically my buddy for the
night. i just decided to follow her because
nanna was nowhere to be seen (not that i
really would have wanted to spend the whole
night with her) and laura was busy running
around several places. so caroline and i
bought some questionable "tequila sunrises"
which seemed to be both without the tequila
and the sunrise - we were convinced it was
just orange juice - and just sat down and
started talking. a lot.
we later went to the canteen to watch this
traditional dance that every 3rd year
participates in. it's (apparently) the queen
of DK's favourite dance, which, when you watch
it, you can DEFINITELY understand why. lots of
curtsies and whatnot.
after that was over, caroline and i found
ourselves in one of the school's weird areas
which you can sit in (its hard to explain,
maybe i'll take a photo of it later) which
lies next to the hallway.
from there, the night gets a little blurry.
i surely remember everything, but not so many
of the details. there were a LOT of laughs, a
lot of friendships established with those in
1.c. and a lot of drunk conversations which
mostly involved red wine. i didnt have very
much to drink, so i was fine, but the others
were very ammusing with a few drinks in them.
its true what they say about the danes really
opening up with a beer.
i remember getting into an "arguement"
about
"soccer" vs. "football" and
the fact that
European Handball (as we called it back home
in year 6) is the most pointless sport in
history.
i had a lot of interesting conversations with
new people and everyone really made a good
impression on me, so i was happy at the end of
the night, despite the 3 people who asked me
to say "rød-grød med fløde" (but i refused
with a firey passion)
they all made me feel so much more welcome and
like they'd be really happy if i were to move
to their class.
so far, an email was written to helen last
night about switching, so i should know in a
day or so her thoughts about that.
the email was a killer, though. i think it
will work just fine - or here's hoping!
so now, until then, i guess i wait. i postpone
any potential homework incase i do get to move
class, and i'll see what happens.
so though i can't remember much of the details
of the year party, what i do remember is that
1.c. kicks 1.z's ass at life. seriously.
and that i would be much happier at school if
i were amongst them.
but, having said that, i'm trying not to count
my chickens and make my expectations too high.
other than that, theres not a whole lot to
say. i'm getting a lot closer with the kids at
my danish school. but there are some creepy
kids in there too. i dont wish to talk about
that right now, haha.
so yeah, if anyone has any questions, feel
free to shoot.
hopefully write again soon

I Don't Know If I'm Okay With That...
- Feb. 5th, 2009 at 10:17 PM
Well there's not a whole lot to say for the past few days at school.
the first day was the most interesting, of course.
so now during class i sort of just sit there with a blank face pretending like i know what's going on.
trust me, its harder than it seems.
i don't think the teacher's really expect a whole lot from me at this stage, but i still try my hardest to be polite and actually concentrate on what's being said in the class, even though i can understand about 4 words in danish.
and for that reason, i don't read my book, listen to my ipod, or even bring my computer to school (EVERYONE here brings their computers to class. it's weird.)
anyway, so i'll brifely talk about some classes:
DANISH sucks. it's horrible. i dont understand what's going on at all and am really hoping that i don't have to turn in a paper next week with the rest of the class.
SPANISH is interesting because everyone is at the begginers level so im not too far behind.
it's also kind of hard because im trying to learn danish, and that's hard enough, so i dont exactly need a second language to be interfering. the other hard thing is that the text book is in danish, so all the translations of words are spanish to dansk. that makes it tough.
MATHS is bad. they're doing linear functions like f(x) stuff and logarithms, which i havent dont since maths methods in year 11. it's hard to keep up in that class.
BIOLOGY is probably (at the moment) the only good subject for me, because i actually know what's going on, and most of the terms are taken from english words, which makes it ok.
HISTORY was a serious bore. today i just read my book because we were working in groups and knowing i could bring absolutly nothing to the group, they allowed me to sit and read my Oliver Sacks.
SOCIAL STUDIES was also boring. yet again i just sat there pretending like i knew what was being said. after class i asked my teacher whether he expected me to do the assignment he handed out, and he said no, instead he was considering asking me to do a presentation on the australian parliament :|. i warned him i dont even know anything about the parliament, but that i guess it would teach me something. nanna and camilla said that it was a good idea that i give a presentation about australia because everyone (at this stage) is very curious.
ENGLISH and PHYSICS i haven't had yet, but i will report on those tomorrow.
SPORT -- here's where my story gets a little...interesting.
i have sport on a wednesday during the day, luckily my class (1z) teams up with laura's class (and hopefully my future class, 1c).
anyway, after our night shopping on tuesday, laura came over for dinner and we were talking about sport the next day. i was mostly complaining because i havent done sport as a compulsary subject since year 10 and im not used to how it works. THEN, the most horrible words came out of laura's mouth. "don't forget to bring a towel and a change of clothes"
"what?"
"yeah, after sport everyone showers"
"oh, okay, fair enough"
"naked. together"
"WHAT!?!"
the scary thing is, as much as it seems like a horrible joke she was playing on me as i suddenly got into hysterics about it being "..really weird" and "we just don't do that in australia. we don't even shower after sport class"
unfortunately, it was true.
i'm not going to get into the whole story about the excuse i was planning on making in order for me to be the first and only one at the time to shower because i "had to get ready for danish school," but to cut a long story short, as i walked into the bathroom ready to face my fears, it turns out EVERYONE gets let out 15 minutes early so they can shower and get ready for their next classes.
horrible.
the previous night when laura warned me, i had also decided to wear my bathers whilst being in there. as a result, most people looked at me funny as i repeated about 40 times "this is weird. this is really weird."
so that's my story for now.
i will be back to report on tomorrow's year party hopefully in the next couple of days and take some photos (finally) for those of you (mostly mum) who keep whinging about the fact that i havent taken any yet. (im just kidding, but its kinda true).
anyway,

First Day, Wild Cards and The Jane Austen Book Club
- Feb. 2nd, 2009 at 8:06 PM
i guess there's not a whole lot to say about the past couple of days, but today was certainly interesting.
i'll start with friday.
laura called me at about midday and she picked me up from my place and we went with her mum to the supermarket to buy some ingredients for friday, and we went to her house afterwards to bake some pizza rolls and then we ate dinner, and came back to my place to practice doing some makeup for friday (mostly me just playing with my makeup and drawing my signiture leopard print on the side of her face, like normal).
saturday was only a little bit different. this is what i wrote in my diary:
Today laura came over again and together we babysat sebastian. we watched the jane austen book club (which was suprisingly satisfying, but still not half as good as ashley (blockbuster) made it out to be). we also watched an episode of heroes and [attempted] to look after sebastian. after she left i did very little, mostly playing games of backgammon and bejewelled online by myself to conquer boredom. it's 8.30 now and im already considering sleep as a result of nothing to do.
-and im pretty sure that i did go to sleep after that because i was so bored.
sunday. yet again- what i wrote in my diary:
Today vivi, sebastian and i took the bus to Odense so that i knew where to go for danish school tomorrow. i bought a "wild card" for 200DKK so that whenever i take the train i get a sweet discount. i also bought a 10 trip ticket for the bus which, at this stage, im going to have to buy every two weeks. this SUCKS because it costs me 380DKK per fortnight, meaning about $50AUD which is HALF of my allowence every week for a month and a half.
-so it's also hard because i need to do a lot of shopping this month. so much clothes-wise i realised i dont have. but its ok because tomorrow (tuesday) laura and i are going to odense to get everything i need. whilst im there im also getting ingredients to cook dinner on wednesday - something australian. initially i was thinking roast lamb, but after reading the receipe i decided there's NO WAY IN HELL that i'm doing that. instead i think i'll cook a staple in my homealone life - lamb chops with lemon and honey sauce. excellent. it also snowed (FINALLY) today. but it was very cold when trying to take the bus.
so i guess it's finally time to talk about my first day at school today.
WELL, having checked my skema (school timetable), i noticed i (for some reason) don't have a language class anymore (other than danish and english). which meant i wasnt to start until 10.30 this morning. BUT, helen, my personal school coordinater, had emailed me a few days ago to tell me to meet Nanna at 8.25 so she could take me to my first class. SO, i decided to go and wait at the "pig statue" like i was told and wait for nanna to take me.
as i entered school i had a hard time working out where the pig statue was, so i went into the office and stood there for about 10 minutes attempting to ask them where the statue was, eventually having to say "you know, PIG. OINK" to which they responded "OOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHH" and showed me. it was pretty much RIGHT outside the office where we were.
ANYWAY, so i stood there for about 10 or 15 minutes before i started getting concerned.
i kept waiting a further 10 or so minutes (by this time it was probably 9am) before i decided to give up and sit down and do some danish vocab excersises.
before i could get stuck into those, i wrote myself this note - now excuse the swearing but you have to understand exactly HOW pissed off i was:
"i'm going to kill her. i'm going to fucking kill her. it's 8.40 and nanna hasn't shown up yet at our meeting plac, the pig statue, and i get the feeling like if she WAS coming then she would have been here by now because she has class first thing in the morning. this is fucking excellent. now i have to wait here alone for 2 hours until my next class starts so that i actually have something to do today. luckily, she's in my one and ONLY class today so i can ive her dirty looks the whole time. who the fuck does she think she is to let an exchange student be by herself for her first day of school?! ESPECIALLY SINCE I DON'T SPEAK THE LANGUAGE!!! What a fucking moron. Honestly. even if she is away today from school, SOMEONE should have notified me or SOMETHING. This is just fucking perfect."
Okay, so i think you get the idea of just how angry i was.
so by the time the first bell went i had been sitting by myself for an hour.
luckily, laura found me at the table, angrily scribbling down some danish verbs and also found helen so we could talk. helen went to find nanna and then came back saying "apparently she didnt know." so i'm going to go ahead and blame it on helen for her horrible choice in class partners and poor communication skills. i forgive people too easily, i decided.
and the good news just kept on coming - helen also informed me that it turns out my skema was wrong, and i DO have spanish. so i had to go to class afterwards and the teacher kept talking in english just for me and stuff, which was good, but reletively unneccesary, and he kept like talking only to me even though there were 20 or so more kids in the class, so i was very shy and silent. it ended up being okay though because some of the boys in the class offered to help me out for the day and show me what to do/where to go, etc. so that was very nice.
as was the small number of people who came up to me afterwards and introduced themselves to me personally. i liked that.
okay, so that was spanish. danish was a whole other horror.
the teacher just spoke in danish the whole time and made no attempt to fill me in on what was happening or what they were talking about, but we watched an old danish comedy film set in the 1700s which was SO hard to follow. in fact, i could NOT tell you what happened. i was confused and daydreaming the whole time so as to not be too bored. after the unbearable 1 hour of watching the film, we preceeded to then talk about the film. ALL of which was in danish. so for the rest of the half hour, i just sat there again, looking around the room. very exciting.
when that class had finished, laura joined me in walking to the bus stop so i could get to danish school.
so i get to the bus stop, FREEZING cold in the wind, and a girl started talking to me. apparently she was in my spanish class. but i didnt take notice of a whole lot whilst i was there so i wasnt suprised. anyway, we got talking on the bus and she took me to a place to have sushi when we got in odense because i was an hour and a half early for the course.
anyway, to cut a long story short(er), it was the worst and most expensive sushi i've ever had in my life. the seaweed was chewy, the rice was too dry, it was pretty much a california hand roll cut into 5 pieces, four tiny pieces of maki, and two miniature pieces of sashimi on rice. to top it all off, i paid 85DKK for that and a GLASS (NOT bottle) of water. 10 DKK for the water (about $3AUD) and 75DKK for the lunch box (OVER $20AUD!!!!!) normally, what i ate would have cost me ~$8.50AUD and it would have been a HELL of a lot better at that.
so then we walked to my danish course and as i arrived 20 minutes early i realised i actually had no idea where to go when i got into the building. there was a large group of kids my age and i decided that they probably were going to the same course, and therefore i would just follow them. i was sitting by myself, a little bit seperate from these kids, for 10 minutes, before 3 of them came over to talk to me. that gave me a sigh of relief, because it made things a lot easier. it wasn't more than 2 minutes after they'd sat down before they were asking for my number because apparently "they all hang out a lot together and wanted me to join them." hah.
so the other thing was that there were 3 other australians in my particular class, but none of them were from melbourne. so that course was particularly boring. we really only learnt Hvad hedder du? and Hvor kommer du fra? and Hvad taler du? in the whole two and half hours of being there. very complicated. haha.
the bus home was no fun either, i couldn't see a thing outside which didnt help me know where to get off, so i had to ask the bus driver, who i was pretty sure couldnt understand what i said, to "let me know when we get to holtevej".
it got more and more complicated as i stopped recognising streets, but it was really just my thoughts getting to me. eventually i got there and it was fine.
SO, basically that was my day. a long story, i know, but i felt like everything that happened today had to be told because it was very perculiar.
hope everyone else is well.

i'll start with friday.
laura called me at about midday and she picked me up from my place and we went with her mum to the supermarket to buy some ingredients for friday, and we went to her house afterwards to bake some pizza rolls and then we ate dinner, and came back to my place to practice doing some makeup for friday (mostly me just playing with my makeup and drawing my signiture leopard print on the side of her face, like normal).
saturday was only a little bit different. this is what i wrote in my diary:

Year 11 All Over Again.
- Jan. 28th, 2009 at 3:07 PM
There is once again not a whole lot to say about today. Vivi and i have finally finished getting my Danish CPR number and are now waiting for it to arrive so that i can use it where i need to.
We also went to a meeting at my school and i was informed of what class i will be in. 1z is what it's called and it's basically year 11. it is good that im in year 11 because year 12 would be too hard to come into the middle of the year, but Laura is in 1c so we were oping we would be together but infortunately im in a class where i will be doing advanced maths (VOMIT), advanced biology, Danish, History, English, Music (a VERY bad thing..) society studies, sport, and more. This is very bad. they also set up a buddy system with another girl but Vivi and i are unsure how well that will work out. we're going to see how i cope for the first week and then maybe change classes.
i also bought a ticket for the big annual formal party thing which im not exactly sure what it is, but apparently its a big exciting event so we'll see how i go with that. it's next friday so that should be interesting.
now i am just sitting in front of the TV watching the simpsons and writing these posts.
very exciting.

Zigeunerschnitzel mit Pomme Frites
- Jan. 27th, 2009 at 2:59 PM
Today Torben took me to Germany because he needed to pick up some wine he bought from an online auction house. we stopped off for lunch and i had Zigeunerschnitzel mit Pomme Frites. Thus proving my theory that you can't go to Germany and NOT eat Schnitzel. this was my first time eating a pork schnitzel though.
we looked into some shops too, but it was VERY cold outside, which discouraged us from going far from the car. we also went to a place which sold exceptionally cheap alcohol, chocolate and candy, but you had to sign some kind of declaration that said you would export it to Denmark (or something along those lines) and show your passport and everything. you also had to declare that you would only use it for personal consumption, not for resale. a bottle of vodka which would normally cost $45 AUD cost about $20 AUD. Very cheap.
Laura, the Pedersen's neighbour who is approximately my age, came over tonight and we talked a lot about school and Denmark and her exchange trip to USA and etc. She is really nice and i hope that we will be in the same class.

H&M
- Jan. 26th, 2009 at 2:18 PM
Today, again i don't exactly know how i feel, just as i have the last week. although im over-whelmed with happiness to be here, i am also wanting to contact people from home quite a lot. but the funny part is that i dont wish i was there (i.e. im not homesick), i just wish that my family and or friends could join me in the things i am experiencing.
Today i spent my first kroners. Vivi and Torben have been paying for most things which is exceptionally nice of them, but unnecessary. Vivi keeps telling me to save my money.
So, with that in mind, we entered (i think) Odense's biggest shipping centre (somewhat similar to chadstone or southland) and i bought a hat from H&M. Previously i had heard of H&M, but this was my first time actually going into one. Though the clothes (from what i saw) werent particularly interesting, the accessories and shoes made me very excited, admitidly, and i will have to return when i go shopping properly for other things.
So today we basically just ran around Odense in attempt to get my Danish personal number (not unlike a TFN crossed with a concession card) but on the way, looked at many shops outside and inside and all different parts of Odense. Mind you, the temperature was 0 degrees, so it became very interestng when we were out of the car for too long.
We also briedly went to my future school, Vestfyns Gymnasium and looked around at the classrooms whilst blonde-haired blue-eyed students stared at me through the window. it had also turned out that none of the admin staff were aware of my arrival which is always a good thing (not), but i am going for a meeting on wednesday so obviously someone knows im supposed to be there.
Last night was horrible in terms of sleep. because it was my first night in DK, i was forced by my body to go to sleep at 7.50pm (5.50am AUS time). i then awoke , unsuprised, four hours later (~9.50am AUS time) and feeling like absolute crap. a mixture of airline food, having eaten half a pig for dinner, and a complete lack of sleep had thus caused me to think i was going to be sick. after 12 unsuccessful trips down stairs, climbing over the child/dog-proof gate (because they forgot to teach me how it works) and finally making it to the bathroom, it turned out my body didn't want to be sick. instead i had a lovely cold shower (which smelt like bad eggs due to disuse), washed my hair, took a sleeping tablet and fell asleep (eventually) on the upstairs matress. i awoke again 3 hours later and saw that mum was on skype so chatted to her whilst i could and then (eventually) went to sleep again. i awoke propperly at 7.30am reletively satisfied with my 9 hour sleep total and went downstairs to help prepare breakfast - i had vegemite, but i get the feeling Vivi and Torben didn't really like the taste of it :)

Well I guess now's a good time to start...
- Jan. 26th, 2009 at 2:59 AM
i plan to write regularly but also keep my posts reletively short because noone wants to read a post that goes for five pages.
I suppose I'm best off starting from the beginning of my airplane experience.
Well, i got on the plane at Melbourne airport for my flight to Singapore.
Knowing my luck, there were two children sitting in front of me. The one who was directly in front of me kept moving his seat back whilst i was attempting to concentrate on a movie, not to mention simultaneously opening and closing the window shade repeatidly.
The one next to him, his sister i presumed, asked about four million questions. After repeated failed attempts to sleep, i decided to browse through the movie selection.
Now, i must say i did enjoy the "on demand" business where i could pause and rewind and fastforward, but the selection was VERY dull.
90% of the movies to chose from were films which came out on DVD in Australia about 5 months ago. 9% were foreign or i'd never heard of them before and 1% were films yet to come out.
now, since there were only 99 channels to choose from, that 1% rounded up to one whole movie. the scary thing was, that i had actually really wanted this film to be on board and it was. Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist. I love Michael Cera, honestly, but this wasn't his best work. i liked it, a lot, and it did help waste 1.5 hours on a seemingly neverending flight, but it wasn't as good as i'd expected it to be.
anyway, i'll skip the rest of the flight but all in all, the best part about it was arriving in singapore. i was literally breathtaken by the view at midnight with all the lights and everything. it was very pretty.
My next flight, singapore to frankfurt honestly felt like i was there for about 20 hours, not 12. Seeing as local time said it was midnight and melbourne/my body clock said it was about 2 or 3am, it was a good opportunity to try and catch some sleep.
So i took my sleeping tablet and slept for an entire 3 hours (at best) and woke up and played two games of Bejewelled (i love bejewelled).
because i slept 5 hours less than intended, the flight just went on and on and on, and the clock barely moved. I watched nearly an entire season of How I Met Your Mother and Bender's Game on my ipod, an episode of scrubs and another episode of HIMYM on the little screen at the back of the seat.
Anyway, so all in all, my flight from singapore to frankfurt SUCKED, but i arrived safely and on time and that was all that really mattered.
My flight from frankfurt to copenhagen was only 1.5 hours and thus rather enjoyable. Although i had a window seat and wanted to soak up all of germany and denmark below me, all i could see was a heavenly thick layer of fog and a clear blue sky. it was kind of eerie, actually.
So, actually landing at copenhagen managed to bring a tear to my eye. Everything i've worked so hard for in the past two years had finally paid off. The double shifts, the late nights, pulling off two jobs whilst being in year 12, everything. i just couldn't believe i'd finally made it. it was a feeling like nothing i've ever had before. it was spectacular.
so after a two hour trip from copenhagen airport to my new home, i was shown around my town, i drove past my school (on the wrong side of the road, mind you), we shopped at the supermarket (where i was able to scope some total babes), and now i sit upstairs in my separate play room whilst theres half a pig in the oven awaiting me. let me tell you, im so the furthest thing from hungry right now. my body thinks it's 3.30 am but really it's only 5.30pm. that and the fact that the airoplane food has actually turned me off eating for the next week. not that it was that horrible, it just that it wasnt exactly the right thing at the right time for my body.
so i've unpacked and put everything away. and it feels like the next 11 months are going to be very intersting.
so i guess the whole homesickness thing hasn't hit me yet, but i know for a fact that it will, and pretty soon.
i should go, dinner awaits me. and im about to fall asleep.
until next time,
